Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: GUI-41
Summary: Process hog while booting app
Type: Bug

Status: Open
Priority: Minor

Project: gui
Versions:
4.8.1

Assignee: Sam Berlin
Reporter: David Naisuler

Created: Mon, 27 Jun 2005 1:05 AM
Updated: Mon, 27 Jun 2005 1:05 AM
Environment: Apple PB G4 FW800 1.25ghz, 10.3.9, 1gb ram, java update. LW Pro 4.8.1, DL'd on 6/26/05

Description:
Upon startup the limewire app hogs processor completely after splash screen, disableing the machine until done evaluating files for sharing. This takes over a minute. 2676 songs in various libraries, including iTunes, usually more. Can be mildly frustrating, ocasionally an actual problem.

Is there a way to prevent this by throttling the app's CPU cycle percentage somehow to, maybe say 50% ?

Usual usage pattern is thus:

-A good song/app/book comes to my attention
-Hot to snag the prospect, I boot limewire
-It takes a while to come up, so I turn to other tasks
-Can't do other tasks, so I must make coffee/ go to store/ call niece while I wait.
-Pray boss doesn't come around while making coffee/ shopping/ making cooing noises into phone.

Save us.
