Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: GUI-10
Summary: PLAY Button Behaviour (Optional) Improvement / Pop-up Menu on FIle
Type: Improvement
Status: Open
Priority: Minor
Project: gui
Assignee: Sam Berlin
Reporter: Angel Leon
Created: Thu, 17 Mar 2005 3:49 PM
Updated: Thu, 17 Mar 2005 3:49 PM
Environment: All
Description:
The application almost teaches you, not to use the "Play" button
on the bottom of the window.
It seems that those controls, are good only for the Playlist, which makes sense when it comes to "Next, Prev"
I know there is a Launch Button, but this is only present on the "Library" tab.
When an user downloads a song and he's desperate to play it for the first time, I believe there are two primary instinctive behaviours (while still being on the "Search" tab context):
-> Double click on the song/video he just downloaded, (Which you already handle).
-> And if the user is not too saavy, he will click on that "Play" button on the bottom, which will make him think there's something wrong with the file, or with the player, since nothing will ever happen.
There is of course the "Preview" Button, but you would think the "Preview" button is good to be used WHILE DOWNLOADING, specially if you've used eMule and other p2p apps out there. Sometimes you're afraid not to use those "Preview" buttons because you might corrupt the dowload.
If you have a Windows user, another behaviour might be RIGHT Clicking on the file, and expecting a "Launch" option. That's missing too. Every pop-up menu on a file should have that option too.
