The following issue has been created:

Here is an overview of the issue:
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: GUI-10
Summary: PLAY Button Behaviour (Optional) Improvement / Pop-up Menu on FIle
Type: Improvement

Status: Open
Priority: Minor

Project: gui

Assignee: Sam Berlin
Reporter: Angel Leon

Created: Thu, 17 Mar 2005 3:49 PM
Updated: Thu, 17 Mar 2005 3:49 PM
Environment: All

Description:
The application almost teaches you, not to use the "Play" button
on the bottom of the window.

It seems that those controls, are good only for the Playlist, which makes sense when it comes to "Next, Prev"

I know there is a Launch Button, but this is only present on the "Library" tab.

When an user downloads a song and he's desperate to play it for the first time, I believe there are two primary instinctive behaviours (while still being on the "Search" tab context):

-> Double click on the song/video he just downloaded, (Which you already handle).
-> And if the user is not too saavy, he will click on that "Play" button on the bottom, which will make him think there's something wrong with the file, or with the player, since nothing will ever happen.

There is of course the "Preview" Button, but you would think the "Preview" button is good to be used WHILE DOWNLOADING, specially if you've used eMule and other p2p apps out there. Sometimes you're afraid not to use those "Preview" buttons because you might corrupt the dowload.

If you have a Windows user, another behaviour might be RIGHT Clicking on the file, and expecting a "Launch" option. That's missing too. Every pop-up menu on a file should have that option too.

Also, I forgot.

ABILITY TO ADD FILES TO PLAYLIST FROM ANYWHERE

I case you don't want to make the play button behave that way, then
on the right click pop-up menu, YOU HAVE TO HAVE an options that says
"Add to Playlist", on every file.

Sometimes you see someone downloading something from you, but you're hearing a song, and you think, hey, it's been a long time I dont listen to this, I'll add it to the playlist... then you gotta go, and find the file on your library, which is time consuming, so you end up probably double clicking on that file, and stopping the current song.

AUTOMATICALLY ADD TO PLAYLIST

On Player Options there should be a check that allows you to automatically add a song to the playlist whenever a song is played.

Example, you download a song, you double click it on the download manager once you see that it's complete, it plays and adds itself to the playlist automatically. That way you add songs to your playlist little by little. it sucks that you play a song, and then it's all quiet you have to go back to limewire, and see what to play, sometimes you don't want to care about a playlist, you want music flowing in your headsets.

+1 for some download panel -> playlist functionlity. Although perhaps making it automatic is a little too intrusive.

Also, the ability to just enqueue a file from the download panel will be very useful as it saves having to go through the library and find the file that was just downloaded. An extra entry in the DownloadPanel popup menu (like "add to playlist") could do.

Once a file has completed downloading, I think the
pop-up menu on right click should look like this:

-------------------------
Launch and Enqueue
Launch
Enqueue
-------------------------
Describe
Rename
Copy to Folder...
Delete
-------------------------
View License
Bitzi Lookup
-------------------------
Copy Magnet to Clipboard
Magnet Details
-------------------------

The automatical adition of the file to the playlist should be
strictly optional, although I would have it as default on my
Limewire.

If the file's not downloaded yet, I would suggest the behaviour
on doble click is to Resume, not to Preview, since not all files
are previewable. It's annoying to click on that Dialog that says
"Nothing to preview", when all you wanted was to restart the download.
